Four sources report on the same war every day. They do not agree, and they are not the same kind of thing. What follows keeps them apart: every series says who states it, and what that makes it.

How to read this
- Every figure carries who states it. Two belligerents claim, a mapping project measures its own map, an institute assesses. Placed side by side without that distinction, claims turn into statistics.
- Each series carries a baseline, the median of the last 30 days. A daily figure without a baseline is a headline, not a quantity.
- Where the sources contradict each other, the contradiction is the finding. It is not resolved here.
The four sources
Ukrainian General Staffclaimed by a belligerent
Daily morning report by a belligerent. These are claims, not measurements: their value is in the trend, not in any single day.
Russian Ministry of Defenceclaimed by a belligerent
Daily briefing by the opposing belligerent, published in English. Cumulative figures are the ministry's own running totals and are not independently verified.
DeepStateMapmeasured from a published map
Pro-Ukrainian mapping project. Areas are computed from the published map geometry, so this is a measurement of the map, not of the ground.
Institute for the Study of Warassessed by an institute
Washington-based, not a belligerent, Western-aligned. Counted here: length of the daily assessment and the number of passages in which it explicitly refutes a claim made by either side.
